Jonathan Barth

DIRECTOR OF TENNIS

Jonathan grew up in Charleston, SC playing junior tennis. He and his wife, Meredith, won two USTA National Husband/Wife Indoor titles in 2005 and 2006, during which they were ranked No. 1 and No. 2 nationally. Jonathan and his father, Roy, won the 2009 USTA National Father/Son 60 & Over Clay Court Championship.

As a USTA volunteer, he currently serves as the Chairman of Junior Competition for USTA-South Carolina and USTA-Southern. Jonathan won the 2016 Pro of the Year award for USTA-South Carolina and USTA-Southern as well as the 2020 USTA-South Carolina Lucy Garvin Volunteer of the Year award. He is a certified teaching professional with the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR). Jonathan has worked in tennis operations at Kiawah Island Golf Resort since 1999, and was named Director of Tennis on January 1, 2018.

Bruce Hawtin

Bruce grew up playing junior and professional tennis in Australia. At 17, he began traveling the world to compete on many continents until 2005, when a back injury compelled him to leave the tour. He moved from France to Davidson, North Carolina, where he launched the tennis academy at River Run Country Club. As a player and early development specialist, Bruce has developed hundreds of juniors who have gone on to receive college tennis scholarships to schools such as Wake Forest, University of Georgia, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Furman. He has served as Team USA national camp coach. His certifications include USTA Sports Science Level 1, USTA-High Performance of Coaching Program, Professional Tennis Registry Master of Performance and International Tennis Performance Association. Bruce became Director of the Barth-Hawtin Tennis Academy in spring of 2019.

Barry Quinn

Barry Quinn

Barry was born in Spartaburg, SC and demonstrated a passion for tennis at an early age, competing at a junior level. While playing collegiate tennis at North Greenville University, he completed an internship for the USTA in Key Biscayne, FL. After college, he coached at his alma mater, leading men’s team to the NCCAA national title in 2003 and 2004. Prior to joining Kiawah Island Golf Resort, Barry taught tennis at Riverside Tennis Club in Greer, SC until 2018, when he then became the Director of Tennis at The Club at Pine Forest in Summerville, SC. Barry joined the Roy Barth Tennis Center in 2022. He has been a PTR Certified tennis professional since 2002.

Hayden Shoemake

Born in Rogers, AR and moved to Centerton, AR when he was 4. Has been playing tennis his whole life because his father, Jake Shoemake, is a coach and his mother, Nicole Shoemake, was certified in coaching before he was born. Hayden grew up playing in the Southern Section his whole life, rising to high ranks in South and playing at national level events.

Hayden played college tennis at The Citadel the Military College of South Carolina. He spent all four years of his career there, mainly playing number 1 singles and number 1 doubles. Was first team all conference in singles and doubles during the 2023 season and second team singles and first team doubles in the 2024 season. Hayden has been training at Barth Hawtin Tennis Academy since last June to get ready for his professional career, while also working for Kiawah Island Golf Resort. He is starting to play professional tournaments this year.

Hayden Shoemake

Teo Cariov

Born in Chicago, IL, Teo moved to Boulder, CO at the age of 4 where he spent the majority of his childhood, growing up playing several sports sports like soccer, rock climbing, swimming, biking, and running until he picked up tennis at the age of 13. Teo’s father taught him how to play the sport as he was a former Division 1 and professional tennis player himself.

Teo’s college tennis career began at Presbyterian college where he won two conference tournaments and played in the NCAA tournament. He transferred to The Citadel as a graduate student and is obtaining a degree in Health and Human Performance. During his last year of undergrad, he played lines 2 and 3 singles and 2 doubles. Teo turned professional during the summer of 2024. He currently has 2 ATP doubles points and has qualified for main draw singles.

Teo is currently training at the Barth-Hawtin Tennis Academy while finishing his master’s degree, while also assisting The Citadel men’s tennis team before he returns to the tour to continue his professional career.

Zach Bost

Zach, a native of Athens, GA, was raised in Jefferson, a small town just outside Athens. His passion for tennis ignited at a young age, propelling him into high-level training that saw him rise into the top 50 nationally as a junior player.
Continuing his pursuits both athletically and academically, Zach ventured to North Carolina to attend Appalachian State. There, he distinguished himself as a NCAA 4-year Scholarship student athlete, serving as the varsity men’s team captain for two years. His stellar performance on the court earned him the title of Most Valuable Player in 2012, along with consecutive all-conference selections in 2012 and 2013. Zach earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science during his studies.

Throughout his college years, Zach shared his expertise as an assistant pro at Grandfather Golf and Country Club (GGCC), while also coaching at Beck Tennis Academy. Post-graduation, he honed his skills further as an assistant pro at River Run for three years. Subsequently, Zach co-founded a tennis academy in Huntersville, NC, where he directed the junior program for two years before joining the esteemed team at Roy Barth Tennis Center. Zach now serves as the Director of Tennis at GGCC, where he will enter his third year of service. If the office searson Zach resides in Charleston, SC where he continues to work at Roy Bath Tennis Center.

Santiago Falla

Santiago was born in Colombia, South America. He was the national Colombian Junior Champion in 1998 and 1999. In 2000, he started his college career at Charleston Southern University. While playing at CSU, Santiago was ranked 18th in the south, and his team won the Big South Conference title in 2000, 2001 and 2002. He taught at Nick Bolletieri’s Tennis Academy in Florida and Seabrook Island Club before coming to Kiawah in 2014. He has also worked with Colombian ATP and WTA touring professionals during the grand slam tournaments such as the French, Wimbledon, and the US Open. He has been a Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) since 2006.
